Questions
One rep max questions.
How do I calculate my one rep max?
Take a hard set you finished with good form and put the weight and reps into the calculator. Evident uses the Epley formula: weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30). A set of 5 at 185 lb works out to about a 216 lb max.
How accurate is a one rep max calculator?
It is an estimate. It is closest when the set is heavy, somewhere between 2 and 10 reps. Past about 10 reps, every formula gets rougher, so use a heavier set when you can.
Epley or Brzycki: which formula is better?
They agree at 10 reps and stay close below it. Brzycki (weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps)) reads a little lower on short sets. Evident uses Epley everywhere, so the calculator matches how the app tracks and ranks your lifts.
What percentage of my max can I lift for 5 reps?
By the Epley formula, a set of 5 all-out reps sits at about 86% of your one-rep max, a set of 8 at about 79% and a set of 10 at 75%. The percent table above shows the weights for your max.
What can I do with my one rep max?
Use the tables to pick a weight for a set of any length, or rank the lift against strength standards for your bodyweight. The rank link above opens the calculator for that lift with your set filled in.
